What do you buy a Travelling Child for Christmas?

Christmas time is fast approaching and we are busily buying gifts for loved ones, but what do you get for a travelling child? With limited luggage space and weight restrictions, it can be difficult to think of anything meaningful. Here are some options for the travelling little ones in your life!

Camera

Older kids will love to capture moments of their travel with their own camera. Some cameras have great kid-friendly features such as a waterproof and soft cover, easy to use large screen, lanyard for easy carrying and cute stickers for a bit of fun! It’s a great way to encourage independence and enthusiasm in the travel experience.

Mini Microscope

Junior scientists will love a hand-held microscope to explore the world in a different way! In contrast to a traditional microscope, your child can take the pocket version out into the world with them to look at anything and everything. It’s a great way to engage little brains in travelling and exploring the world in a unique way!

Magnifying Glass

Young kids love looking at tiny objects! A magnifying glass helps them to see the world up close, in a different way. When you are out and about they can look at different leaves, flowers, insects and lots of other things! It can entertain them for hours.

DIY Kaleidoscope

If your child is creative, then they will love a wooden kaleidoscope. This kaleidoscope comes apart so your child can place objects onto the glass to create their own unique patterns using objects such as flowers, shells and beads. The options are endless! Such a fun way to explore the world around them.

Binoculars

There are many kid-friendly binoculars out there that are perfect for curious little ones! Take them on boat trips, beach walks or mountain hikes and your child will love spotting things from a distance that only their eyes can see.

Travel Boardgames

Enter any quality toy store and you will find plenty of travel boardgames or cardgames perfect for jet-setting kids. Classics like Snakes and Ladders, Guess Who, Battleships and UNO are popular, but there are endless options available to entertain little ones on a long travel day.

Tiger Tribe Activity Packs

Tiger Tribe makes a range of portable activity packs with cute designs for both boys and girls. They contain everything you need in an easy carrycase, including textas, colouring, scratch art and more. A perfect gift to occupy little ones on a train or plane!

Subscriptions

There are so many subscription options out on the market. If you’re at a home base then a postage subscription is a fun way to keep your child engaged in travel and excited to receive mail! For younger kids we love Geo Journey  where each month your child receives a letter from lovable characters, Geo and Atlas as they travel and experience different locations around the world. The initial package contains their own mini suitcase, passport and travel journal, with each subsequent letter containing puzzles for your child to complete and a little souvenir from each location. It’s a great way to introduce a new place to your children, locate it on a map and research more about it. For older kids we recommend Letters From Afar. It is a similar concept, with beautifully illustrated letters delivered each month from a different location.

An experience!

Rather than buying something that a travel family must lug around with them, why not buy an experience? Look at options in the areas they are travelling to next, such as animal encounters, helicopter or hot air balloon rides, or cultural experiences that will create lifelong memories for the whole family.

What do you think? Has this given you some ideas for Christmas presents for the little ones despite their travelling lifestyle? I’d love to hear your favourite travel present ideas in the comments.
