Have you heard of this term, worldschooling, before? Or has it completely come out of thin air, but you’re intrigued to know more? Well, you’ve come to the right place!
We are essentially homeschoolers, meaning we choose to educate our children at home with us, but with one key difference, we do not have a home. We view the world as our home (and classroom), and see the infinite value in traveling with our children, experiencing different cultures and learning from this beautiful along the way!
That is WORLDSCHOOLING.
Travel opens doors to countless learning opportunities that can’t always be measured or written into a lesson plan. Immersing your child in a new culture, hearing different languages, tasting unfamiliar cuisines, exploring the history of a place, and connecting with people from all walks of life all contribute to an education that is rich, deep, and lasting.
There is no curriculum or one way to do worldschooling. Just like homeschooling, there are many different forms and it really depends on the family. We do a balance of formal schooling- it helps that I was a teacher for 10 years- and unschooling – meaning we go with the flow and learn from real life. Travelling with children means there’s always something new to learn, constantly immersed in the educational experience with parents often learning alongside their children.
There are many worldschoolers, travelling and learning around the globe. They range from families with a home base who travel regularly, to families that have sold everything and travel full time. We have done both of these. Our kids, aged 8 and 10, have been to over 18 countries. They love travelling and have friends all over the world! It is such a thrill edventuring with them. It’s not always easy but worth it none-the-less.
